NOTICE ROAD BAN IN EFFECT

WHEREAS pursuant to the authority granted under the Traffic Safety Act, the Special Areas Board may limit or restrict the weight and load to be carried by a traction engine, public service vehicle or commercial vehicle using a district highway, local road or portion of either, for such period or periods as the Board may determine;  and

WHEREAS it is deemed necessary to impose various loading restrictions on all roads within Special Areas No. 2, 3 and 4. 

NOW IT IS THEREFORE ORDERED that a road ban be placed on all municipal oiled, base coursed and paved roads in Special Areas 2, 3 and 4 effective 8:00 A.M., March 5, 2010 restricting bus, truck and trailer traffic to Seventy-five percent (75%) of authorized load limits except as allowed under the act or regulation or except as noted below; and on all gravel roads restricting loads to 100% of authorized limits. 

EXCEPTIONS:
The following oiled or paved roads are restricted to One Hundred percent (100%) of authorized load limits (except as allowed under the act or regulation):

  • Former Secondary Highway 565 from Pollockville to Highway 36; 
  • Hanna Access from Highway 36 to Hanna.

Environmental Review Program
All industrial and commercial activities that disturb land administered by the Special Areas Board will be required to conduct an Environmental Review prior to construction.  The Environmental Review will consist of a site specific assessment and related information searches to compile a comprehensive overview of the environmental conditions at proposed development locations.  The Environmental Review Program will be implemented on January 1, 2010.  Final versions of documents related to the Program are included below.  Please contact Michele Corry at Michele.Corry@gov.ab.ca for further information.

SPECIAL AREAS BOARD
100 YEAR FARM FAMILY AWARD
The Special Areas Board wishes to recognize those families that have farmed/ranched in the Special Areas for 100 years.  If your family owned and operated the homestead quarter for 100 years please make application to the Special Areas. 
Application forms will be available at all of the District Offices and here
The family will receive one bronze plaque commemorating this milestone and it will be presented to the family who owns the original homestead quarter.  Certificates of recognition are also available for other family members.
